SEXUAL ADDICTION SPECIALIST CERTIFICIATION REQUIREMENTS

Pastoral certification is granted through Cornerstone Training. Cornerstone Training (Atlanta, GA) is certified through the American Association of Certified Christian Sexual Addiction Specialists, Inc., (AACCSAS) and approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors. QUALIFICATIONS FOR PASTORAL CERTIFICATION

To obtain pastoral certification as a Certified Pastoral Sexual Addiction Specialist, the following is required:

Education Requirements
1. Applicants must also have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a US Department of Education accredited institution.

And

2. Completion of the two courses: Understanding and Treating Sexual Addiction and Sexually Addicted Families

Or

Complete 125 hours of approved education in the following core areas. Sexual addiction and co-addiction counseling, general addiction treatment, theology of sexuality, and trauma treatment. At least ½ of the educational requirements must be met utilizing the teaching and training of Dr. Mark Laaser and approved staff members. These hours can be met through documentation of continuing education, graduate courses, and other approved training opportunities. Employment
Employed by a church or parachurch organization or recognized in a leadership position by the church or parachurch organization. Applicants must also have a minimum of a bachelors degree from a US Department of Education accredited institution. The purpose of the pastoral certification is to recognize individuals who have completed educational requirements and are equipped to recognize the problem of sexual addiction when it presents in church members. It is expected that an individual with pastoral certification will maintain connections with professionals who specialize in treating sexual addiction and co-addiction and will know how to make appropriate referrals. The applicant for pastoral certification will demonstrate an understanding of the limits of their training and will know how to address the spiritual aspects of sexual addiction and co-addiction without diminishing the clinical aspects of sexual addiction and co-addiction.
